Following last week’s warm up match, yesterday’s game got off to a slow and ominous start. After the first quarter we were drawing 0-0, which although unheard of in the sport, reflected our strong defensive efforts.

By the third quarter, our attack was a force to be reckoned with and shots on goal turned into scores on the board. Heading into the last we were working well together and carried the momentum from our slight lead to take the match from the opposition.

We stormed ahead to a 7-3 win in the last few minutes of the game. Huge celebrations ensued after our first win of the season, although admittedly it was an uncharacteristically low-scoring match.

Player of the match – Everyone played a vital part in the win, after all there is no one man band in Netball. However special mention to Emily who scored some crackers despite underhand tactics by the opposition who failed to put her off her game. Player of the match has to go to Katy though who made some flying interceptions as GK and only let 3 goals slip past her.

Villain of the piece - Undoubtedly and without hesitation this goes to Lisa who was playing so aggressively that she nearly gauged the GD’s eye out, who collapsed to the floor with her head in her hands. We did try to see if she was OK but she refused to speak to us (bitter in defeat) however for those concerned, I do believe she has made a full recovery.

Next Wednesday we play Saints, who unlike their footballing namesakes are top of the league...
