New decision-maker to focus on technical skills training and comprehensive benefits
The company appointed Stuart Benham as its new Head of HR Operations in September to lead its people strategy. His key responsibilities include employee development and training, with a particular focus on technical skills, and we therefore expect a review of the business’ L&D provisions in the new year.
Technical skills training: Weetabix recently introduced a new on-boarding strategy, including a two-day induction for employees joining the organisation, and is looking to develop its apprenticeship programme. It currently offers engineering and manufacturing apprenticeships, which also help individuals learn the basics of leadership and business improvement, while it is focusing on technical skills training to ensure it maintains a pipeline of talent for its core manufacturing operations.
Gender balance: Another core aim for Stuart in his new role will be to address the company’s gender imbalance; 71% of its highest paid staff are male. It has a 5.4% mean gender pay gap which it is striving to reduce, and it will be investing in areas such as career development, succession planning and unconscious bias training to create a more inclusive management structure.
Comprehensive benefits: We predict the business will invest in additional benefits next year as it looks to ensure its package is comprehensive and appeals to all demographics. Schemes that can help address the company’s gender imbalance are most likely to be of interest and we predict that the organisation will be assessing flexible working options. Weetabix was shortlisted in the “Best Voluntary Benefits” category at the Employee Benefits Awards 2018 and has been recognised for being simple and transparent with pay processes and bonuses.
